Sheet Sets Templates26
27
Sheet Sets u A sheet set is a collection of drawing sheets for a project. u The term sheet refers to a drawing produced for the project. u In AutoCAD, sheets are created on layout tabs in a drawing file. Templates27
28
Sheet Sets u All of the sheets in a sheet set can use a single template. u The template can contain a title block with attributes containing fields. Templates28
29
Sheet Sets u The field values may include items such as u project name and sheet number. u If the project name changes during the course of the project, the field can be modified in the template, and u the change is automatically applied to all sheets within the set. Templates29
30
Sheet Sets u If a new sheet is inserted into a sheet set, the sheet numbers and all sheet references update automatically. u This automation can save a great deal of time and improve the accuracy of the set of drawings. Templates30
31
Sheet Sets u Once the sheet set is complete, you can easily print, publish, and archive the entire set in a single operation. u This is very efficient. u For example, it is far easier to plot a sheet set containing twenty sheets than to open and plot twenty separate drawings. Templates31
32
Sheet Sets u Sheet sets are created, organized, and accessed using the Sheet Set Manager. u To open the Sheet Set Manager u pick the Sheet Set Manager button on the Standard Annotation toolbar, u select Tools >Palettes >Sheet Set Manager, u type SSM or SHEETSET, or u use the [Ctrl]+[4] key combination. Templates32
33
Templates33
34
Sheet Sets u The window is divided into three tabs: u Sheet List u Sheet Views u Model Views. u The Sheet Set Control drop-down list at the top of the Sheet Set Manager is used to open and create sheet sets. Templates34

Templates36
37
Creating Sheet Sets u Sheet sets are created with the Create Sheet Set wizard. u This wizard can be accessed u from within the Sheet Set Manager by picking New Sheet Set... from the Sheet Set Control drop-down list. u The Create Sheet Set wizard can also be accessed by selecting File > New Sheet Set... from the pull-down menu. u Sheet sets can be created from an example sheet set or from existing drawing files. Templates37

Creating a Sheet Set from an Example Sheet Set Templates38
39
Creating Sheet Sets u When you create a new sheet using an example sheet set, you u select an existing sheet set as a model, and u then modify it as needed to fit the needs of the new sheet set. u AutoCAD provides several example sheet sets based on different drafting disciplines. Templates39
40
Creating Sheet Sets u You are not limited to the examples provided—you can use any existing sheet set as an example sheet set. Templates40
41
Templates41
42
Creating Sheet Sets u To create a new sheet set from an example sheet set, u open the Sheet Set Manager u select New Sheet Set... from the Sheet Set Control drop-down list u This opens the Create Sheet Set wizard. Templates42
43
Creating Sheet Sets u This wizard steps you through the process of creating a sheet set. u The Begin page of the Create Sheet Set wizard provides two options. u An example sheet set u Existing drawings u Pick the Next button u to display the Sheet Set Example page. Templates43
44
Creating Sheet Sets u Sheet set information is saved in a DST file (sheet set data file). u The list box on the Sheet Set Example page u lists all DST files in the default Template folder. u Pick one of these sheet sets u or u Pick the Browse to another sheet set to use as an example radio button and u then select the ellipsis (...) button and u use the dialog box to locate a DST file in another folder. Templates44
45
Templates45
46
Creating Sheet Sets u Select the DST file for the example sheet set, u Pick the Next button u Displays the Sheet Set Details page. u This page allows you to u modify the existing sheet set data and u create settings for your new project. Templates46
47
Templates47
48
Creating Sheet Sets u Enter the name, or title, of the sheet set u typically the project number or a short description of the project. u A description for the sheet set can be entered in the Description area. Templates48
49
Creating Sheet Sets u Picking the Sheet Set Properties button opens the Sheet Set Properties dialog box. u The main settings for the sheet set are specified in this dialog box. u There are four sections: u Sheet Set u Project Control u Sheet Creation, and u Sheet Set Custom Properties. Templates49
50
Creating Sheet Sets u The settings in the Sheet Set section are: u Name. u Contains the sheet set name entered in the Name of new sheet set text box of the Sheet Set Details page. u Sheet set data file. u Shows the location of the DST file, specified in the Store sheet set data file (.dst) here text box of the Sheet Set Details page. u Description. u Contains the description of the sheet set entered in the Description area of the Sheet Set Details page. Templates50
51
Creating Sheet Sets u Model view. u Specifies the folder(s) containing drawing files that are used for the sheet set. u Label block for views. u Specifies the block used to label views. u Callout blocks. u Specifies blocks available for use as callout blocks. u Page setup overrides file. u Specifies the location of an AutoCAD template file (DWT file) containing a page setup to be used to override the existing sheet layout settings. Templates51
52
Creating Sheet Sets u All of these settings except Sheet set data file can be changed by picking in the textbox to activate it. u When file locations are required, the ellipsis (...) button appears. Picking this button allows you to navigate to the location you want to specify. Templates52
53
Creating Sheet Sets u The properties in the Project Control section allow you to store and update information based on the current project. The properties in the Sheet Creation section determine the location for the drawing files for new sheets and the template used to create them. Templates53
54
u When a new sheet is added to a sheet set, AutoCAD creates a new drawing file based on the template and layout specified in the Sheet creation template setting. The folder path in the Sheet storage location field determines where the new file is saved. It is important to specify the correct location so you know where the files are being saved. Templates54
55
u When selecting the Sheet creation template value, you must specify both a template file and a layout. To modify this setting, pick in the text box and then pick the ellipsis (...) button. This displays the Select Layout as Sheet Template dialog box. u All layouts in the selected template are displayed in the list box. Select the layout and then pick OK. Templates55
56
u If the value in the Prompt for template field is set to No, the template layout specified in the Sheet creation template field is automatically used when a new sheet is created. This is the default setting. If the field value is set to Yes, you can select a different layout when creating a new sheet. Templates56
57
u Information specific to the project can be set up in the Sheet Set Custom Properties u section. This topic is described later in this chapter. u Once all the values in the Sheet Set Properties dialog box are set, pick OK. Templates57
58
u This returns you to the Sheet Set Details page. Pick the Next button to continue creating the new sheet set. u The Sheet Set Preview area on the Confirm page displays all of the information associated with the sheet set. Templates58
59
u See Figure 29-7. In the example shown, a u sheet set named Building Project has been created. This sheet set contains a number of subsets related to the project, such as General and Architectural. After the sheet set is created, sheets can be added to each subset. Templates59
60
u After reviewing the information on the Confirm page, pick the Finish button to u create the sheet set. If a setting needs to be changed, use the Back button. Templates60
61
u Professional Tip: u The information in the Sheet Set Preview area can be copied to a word processing program to be saved or printed. To do this, high light all of the text and then use the [Ctrl]+[C] key combination. Open a new document in the word processing program and then use the [Ctrl]+[V] key combination to paste the text into the document. Templates61
62
u When you pick the Finish button, the sheet set data file is saved to the specified location. The sheet set can then be opened in the Sheet Set Manager. Since a sheet set is not associated with a particular drawing file, any sheet set can be opened, regardless of the open drawing file. Templates62
63
u Creating a Sheet Set from Existing Drawing Files u You can use existing drawings to create a sheet set. Layouts are imported from u the drawingfiles to create the sheets. Each layout in the drawings becomes a separate u sheet. u Whencreating a sheet set in this manner, organize all files used in the projectin u a structured hierarchy of folders. To simplify access to the different layout tabs, it is u recommended that you place only one layout in each drawing file. To ensure that all u sheets have the same layout settings, you should create a sheet creation template as u well. The template is specified in the Sheet Set Properties dialog box. u To create a new sheet set from an existing drawing project, open the Sheet Set u Manager. Select New Sheet Set... from the Sheet Set Control drop-down list to open u the Create Sheet Set wizard. On the Begin page, select Existing drawings and pick u the Next button. On the Sheet Set Details page, specify a name and description for u the sheet set and the location where the data file will be saved. Pick the Sheet Set u Properties button to specify the sheet set properties. u Picking the Next button displays the Choose Layouts page. This page is used u to specify the drawings and layouts to be added to the sheet set. Pick the Browse... u button to selectthe folder(s) containing the drawing files with the desired layouts. The u selected folder, the drawing files it contains, and all layouts within those drawings u are displayed. When you first open a folder in the Choose Layouts page, all of the u drawing files with layouts in that folder are added for selection. Each item has a check u box next to it.The layouts that are checked are added to the new sheet set. If a layout u should not be part of the new sheet set, uncheck the box next to it. In Figure 29-8, the Templates63
64
u boxes next to Furniture.dwg and its layouts have been unchecked, so they will not be u included in the sheet set. Unchecking a drawing file automatically unchecks all of u the layouts within it. If the folder is unchecked, all of the layouts in the drawing files u are unchecked. More folders can be added to the Choose Layouts page by using the u Browse for Folder dialog box. u When a sheet set is created using existing layouts, the name for a new sheet can u be the same as the layout name, or it can be the drawing file name combined with the u layout name. Sheet naming options can be accessed by picking the Import Options... u button to display the Import Options dialog box. See Figure 29-9. If the Prefix sheet u titles with file name check box is checked, the layouts that become sheets are named u with the drawing file name and the name of the layout. Forexample, if a layout named Templates64
