TEKS G RADE 4- S ECTION 112.6 As students learn science skills, they identify components and processes of the natural world including properties of soil, effects of the oceans on land, and the role of the Sun as our major source of energy. In addition, students identify the physical properties of matter and observe the addition or reduction of heat as an example of what can cause changes in states of matter (4.1) Scientific processes. The student conducts field and laboratory investigations following home and school safety procedures and environmentally appropriate and ethical practices. The student is expected to: (A) demonstrate safe practices during field and laboratory investigations; and (B) make wise choices in the use and conservation of resources and the disposal or recycling of material

U NIT Q UESTIONS : What are the four seasons? Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter Understanding the dangers that are present during Inclement weather conditions. Ex: Ice/Snow storms, Hurricanes, Tornados What is the main cause for the change in weather throughout the year? Understand the main cause for the change in weather deals with the role of the sun, and that the location of the sun on earth is constantly changing as the earth turns, which causes the different seasons.

A CTIVITIES FOR KIDS ! Have students make their own thermometer using balloon sticks, warm water, food coloring, rubber stoppers, a flask and a 3x5 index card. After making their thermometers, have them measure the temperature each day throughout the year and keep a log of how the weather changes. Have students write about their favorite season: What the Weather is like. What they like to do during that time of the year. Draw a picture pertaining to their favorite season that goes along with their paper.
