What is an Editorial? An article in a publication expressing the opinion of its editors or publishers. A commentary on television or radio expressing the opinion of the station or network.

Why Write an Editorial? Editors See the News and Respond! Express your opinion and invite others to respond. Persuade others. Inform others about events and the news.

How to Write an Editorial! 1.Choose a current issue. For your editorial to be good, it will have to address an issue or topic that is current. Look to television, the internet or newspaper for the biggest daily topics. 2.Take a clear stance on the issue. 3.Use facts to support your beliefs. 4.Think about your audience and try to appeal to them. 5.Be short and to the point!

Hot Editorial Topics Politics, the economy, war, education and testing. Things that stir people up may depends on your audience. Example: Writing about school uniforms would get most teens attention.

Editorial Cartoons Editorial cartoons use humor and satire to show a position about current issues.

Your Turn! Read the editorial about downloading music aloud in large group. Break into small groups and discuss, filling out hand out. Brainstorm good topics! Work individually to plan and write a brief editorial of your own.
