NCMA Chapter Use Of SurveyMonkey ®

19 What is SurveyMonkey ® ? A free, online survey software and questionnaire tool Why use SurveyMonkey ® ? It is a convenient (and free!) way to track RSVPs, poll chapter members on a variety of topics, and collect statistics related to the chapter and chapter members.

20 How Do You Get Started? First Step: Identify Your Needs & Pick A Plan

21 Questions To Consider When Evaluating Plans: -Will this method be used mainly to track RSVPs, or will this be used for other Chapter-wide surveys as well? -How many questions will be included on the survey(s)? -How many respondents do you expect? -Do you need custom survey designs or customized URLs/Web addresses? Most Chapters will need either the Basic Plan (which is free!) or the Select Plan (which is $17/mo).

22 Second Step: Sign Up For An Account http://www.surveymonkey.com

23 Third Step: Begin Creating Surveys! SurveyMonkey ® provides tutorials to get you started! After you create your account, select “Help” and then select “Tutorials”. These tutorials provide information on how to create a survey, question types, formatting options, etc.

24

25 How The Research Triangle Park Chapter Has Utilized SurveyMonkey ® -Tracking RSVPs for Chapter meetings -Surveying members for feedback on Chapter meetings -Surveying members for feedback on educational opportunities, education topics, the structure of chapter meetings, and other areas of feedback which assist Chapter leaders in planning the upcoming program year

26 Example Questions In The RTP Chapter RSVP Survey: 1. Will you be attending the upcoming Chapter event? 2. If you are attending, please provide your name and organization as you wish it to appear on your nametag. 3. Are you paying for the Chapter meeting at the door or via PayPal? 4. If you are attending a Chapter meeting for the first time, please provide your name below. 5. If you are attending the meeting and are a new professional, please provide your name below.

27 Collecting RSVPs/Analyzing Results In order to view your RSVPs, log in to your account. Then go to “My Surveys” and select the appropriate survey. Then select “Analyze Results”.

28 Common Questions: 1. I’ve created the RSVP survey. How do I see the names of individuals who will be attending the meeting? When creating the question, you have the opportunity to choose different question types. For instance, you may choose a question to be a multiple choice question. When collecting the names of respondents, you will want to select the “Comment/Essay Box” question type.

29 Common Questions: 2. How do I prevent members from responding more than once to a survey? You only have the option to limit the number of responses per computer. As such, when selecting “Collect Responses”, select “Change Settings”. The option is provided to “Allow Multiple Responses”. Select “No, Allow Only One Response Per Computer.”

30 Common Questions: 3. For record keeping purposes, how long will the survey be available to view? The surveys are available for as long as your account is active. If you have a “Select Plan”, then you will also have the option of downloading the responses to an Excel spreadsheet or to a PDF document. You can also print the survey results from the website by selecting “File” in your internet browser and then selecting “Print”.
