Where did William Shakespeare live? William Shakespeare lived in Stratford, England He lived in a cottage, and it was packed with his brothers and sisters Connections In his room he would have had a trundle bed that would be shared with some brothers or sisters, now kids usually don’t share trundle beds with their brothers and sisters

When Shakespeare was very young his family was wealthy, his dad was a successful glove maker Around 12 years old Shakespeare’s dad’s work started to fail and they had some trouble with expenses Shakespeare had to work when he was older to help his family’s financial troubles

Shakespeare’s Lost Years At the age of 15 Shakespeare left school, in 1581, after that hundreds of years were dedicated to find clues about what had happened to Shakespeare in his lost years Church records show that William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway, in November, 28 1582. They had their first child Susana a year later, then in 1585 they had twins, Judith and Hamnet.

What were the so called clues to the lost years? Many people often made predictions about Shakespeare’s life by judging what was usually in his plays For example; Some of Shakespeare’s plays had beautiful garden’s and a lot of plant life mentioned in it so people assumed he tended to a well maintained garden, or participated in outdoor or wildlife activities.

What Did Shakespeare Do After His Lost Years? After Shakespeare said goodbye to his wife and 3 daughters, in 1592, he set off to London in search of good fortune There he began, learning the art of writing by watching plays and acting in them. Shakespeare had his own company for plays and Queen Elizabeth liked watching his them.

What Were One of Shakespeare’s First Plays? One of the first plays was Titus Andronicus It was a bloody play inspired by the Roman author, Seneca’s, playwrights. This is a picture of Titus Andronicus. This is a picture of Titus Andronicus.

What Was the Quality of the Costumes in the Plays? Shakespeare’s plays always had the latest costumes and they were always in the time that he was in. The costumes were high quality, and the actors took pride in them.

What were Shakespeare’s Comedies Usually About? To Shakespeare and other playwrights comedy meant light hearted plays that had a happy ending. For example Shakespeare took interest in comedies about young lovers fighting against disapproving parents or having to overcome obstacles that made them even more happy in the end.

Were There Rough Times in the Play Business? During the overtake of plague (a deadly disease in the 1500s) the theatres had to close because the people thought that crowded theatres spread the disease very quickly. After a few years of shut down, the theatre was reopened and people could enjoy plays again. Soon the playhouse was shut down because it was on rented land in 1597, but the company built a new one across the river.

What Were a Lot of Shakespeare’s plays about in the 1590s? Shakespeare wrote only few tragedies and focused on comedy and historical plays He returned to tragedy in the early 1600’s, which some people think was his greatest years among his lifetime, he wrote popular plays that were, Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth

Why Did Shakespeare return to Stratford upon Avon? After finishing work on the tempest he returned to Stratford to retire and see his father’s funeral He bought a house there that was 2 nd biggest in Stratford His daughter was married with a man he approved of and it was a symbol the Shakespeare was getting old Later Shakespeare had died but his spirit and plays lived on.

Fun Facts Robert Greene wrote a attack on Shakespeare calling him an “upstart crow” people think this because in the poem the attack was in a line said “His tiger’s heart wrapped in a player’s hide” is referring to Shakespeare because in one of his plays it says,“Tiger’s heart wrapped in a woman’s hide” Only men could perform in plays during Shakespeare’s time so they dressed up boys in dresses and wigs. Shakespeare invented the word assassination. In Stratford there’s a celebration in honor of Shakespeare.
