Roe v. Wade Year: 1973 Roe: For women’s rights Wade: Defense of Texas statute Issue: Women’s right over her own body. – Amendments: 1, 3, 4, 5, 9, 14 7-2 vote in favor of Roe, pregnancy could be terminated within 90 days.

Susan B. Anthony v. United States 1873 Susan B. Anthony, 14 other women and in 10 other states. Issue: Illegal voting, women could vote because they are citizens. Jury found Anthony guilty of federal offense. – Anthony refused to pay $100 fine. – Judge did not jail or arrest Anthony.

Plessy v. Ferguson 1896 Homer Plessy Ferguson was the Trial Court Judge Justice Brown was chief justice overhearing the case. Challenged Jim Crow Laws – 13 th amendment – Equal protection clause of the 14 th amendment.

Plessy v. Ferguson Issue: Homer Plessy a 1/8 th African American was asked to sit back in the blacks only car, but refused. Fergusons original ruling against Plessy was upheld with a vote of 7-1. Making Segregation legal in the U.S.

Brown v. Board of Education 1954 Linda Brown represented by Thurgood Marshall Topeka Kansas Board of Education Justice Warren overheard the case.

Brown v. Board of Education Issue: Linda Brown wanted to send her child to a school 5 miles away from their home. But, the school board said that because her daughter was black she must attend a school 21 blocks away from their home. Court voted 9-0 in favor of Linda Brown. Making Segregation illegal in the U.S.
