2 Tom Hughes, AIA, REFP, LEED ap Principal SfL+a Architects Tim Carpenter Principal LKC Engineering Union Pines High School Pinecrest High School North Moore High School We’ll be looking at the current facilities and a long-range master plan for the three Moore County High Schools: The Master Plan will address the long range needs of the Moore County High School campuses so that incremental projects align with the vision for the campus organization.

3 We will examine each of the high school facilities beginning with the existing facility and the progress through a phased transformation of the facility to a final vision. While the phases are sequential, they may also be combined as possible through project funding. At each facility, interviews and interim presentations were conducted with principals, teachers, students and community members to solicit feedback and develop the overall master plan. The goal is to develop a comprehensive, phased master plan that provides a safe and secure, right-sized educational facility that is a 21st century learning environment allowing for growth and flexibility over the life of the master plan implementation. 4 Original Program Need:  Compared the current facility to DPI suggested typical high school profile of spaces  Profile has not been updated since 2003  Since then, the cap on the number of students in a classroom has been eliminated (for grades 4-12) and curriculum offerings have changed  The size of existing classrooms are not adequate to support the number of students – these spaces need to be ‘right-sized’  Campus layout does not meet modern safety standards for schools  These campuses have received significant investments over the past few years and will remain high schools for the next 50 to 80 years  New work must solve access and connection concerns and provide a framework for future expansion and modernization  New work must begin a process of phased construction that allows these facilities to meet educational needs over the next few decades PROGRAM OF REQUIREMENTS

5 Original Estimation of Construction Cost:  Process began in 2013  Cost based on previous year projects  Since then, cost has escalated 32%  In one-year alone, selected industry materials have seen 22% to 31% increases CONSTRUCTION COST!!! 2012 $146.52 2013 $165.08 2014 $189.21 2015 $196.05
