June 1 rst, 2015. Consolidation for E-cloud and High Voltage cards N.Vauthier TE-CRG LS1 projects review: https://indico.cern.ch/event/397370

E-cloud Project : Specification : Technical Document based on LBOC discussions held on oct-2013 Due to physical location on BS cooling pipes, mounting test performed to validate non-LHC standard solution Procurement : 8x3 Sensors: temporary loan from other projects 6 electrical Feedthrough: initially manufactured by CERN but not conform=> extra delay + alternative solution using non LHC connector type and extra cost 9kCHF Execution Additional resource equivalent to 4 FSU/month Not allowed to use spare vacuum port for cryo electrical feedthrough, as a result using Cryo Feedthrough: more complex work + increase risk of collateral damages with existing instrumentations 3 LS1 projects review: feedback on projects & lessons learned

E-cloud Project : Execution : Following SMACC availability/constraints to install cabling and sensors Many interventions to repairs damaged wires when closing Interconnection, as a result 1 sensor over 24 is out of service Due to installation phases delay and external control and DB support, integration in control system was not ready for February spec generation Dedicated Front panel for operators is currently in progress Commissioning : Schedule after TS1: S45 control system update 4 LS1 projects review: feedback on projects & lessons learned

E-cloud Project : Extract lessons to improve future projects : Of course it was - not initially schedule in LS1 project dashboard - not identified as “priority” project But it was achieved based on goodwill of all colleagues: => A more structured project approach (ECR, technical specification, commissioning reports) will ease communication/execution. Also more efficient when negotiating with other groups? Loss of know-how inside CERN for vacuum tight feedthrough soldering=> contact with external firm in progress for procurement qualification and propose few standard models for next TE-CRG projects When operational, we will gain experience with this new type of mounting and accuracy performance 5 LS1 projects review: feedback on projects & lessons learned

High voltage Card: Specification: 3 types of electronic card consolidation: 1.9kV based on ECR LHC-QIT-EC-0001 v.1.0, 2008-07-09 1.2kV and 600V based on LHC-DE-TP-0007 rev2.0, updated 2012-03-14 6 LS1 projects review: feedback on projects & lessons learned Procurement: 1.9kV: according to Technical review held on 2009-04-28 1.2kV: 1 year delay for cabling procurement mainly due to CERN purchase service. => As a result, we prudently switch strategy for 600V and reducing cost by replacing front panel card using spare HV card.

High voltage Card: Installation : Cost reduce by re-using existing equipment and allow to consolidate channel however it imposes strict planning of its modification According to EN-MEF coordination constraints Traceability and Quality Assurance : Validation of card replacement to update MTF with EAM-Light apex Handling retired equipment according to RP rules with TREC apex With KDC300i, 2D Terminal Reader BlueTooth. Commissioning: Ideally to ensure voltage withstand level, equipment shall be qualified to twice the specified voltage Card done during reception test Cables and connectors for 1.2kV type: not performed, breakdown occurs above specified voltage Initially, many channels were damaged, card=fuse: This phenomena was apparently due to ELQA learning period. High spare consumption requiring lot of resources ( diagnostics, repairs and availability/flexibility of qualified personnel) To ensure procurement, we request strong constraint for 1.9kV procedure by disconnecting CRG equipment 7 LS1 projects review: feedback on projects & lessons learned

High voltage Card: Extract lessons to improve future consolidation: NE48 cables and subD connectors becomes is now the last remaining weak point to be consolidated for LS2, which including EN-EL support Advantage/disadvantage of IMPACT system where we lost flexibility for minor/short intervention DB system and tools efficient, but Wi-Fi connexion mandatory To be more efficient: ELQA activity should be systematically announced to cryo operation team Get ELQA feedback/report when test is defective 8 LS1 projects review: feedback on projects & lessons learned
