2 The word “DE” has 2 meanings: 1.2. OF FROM To know the difference, you must understand the context of the sentence. From: Of: Yo soy de Durham. Me gusta la música de Mozart.

3 In English, we use ‘s to show possession. Timmy’s books. The boys’ animals. In SPANISH there is NO ‘s!!! In SPANISH use DE to show possession: 1.2.3. Los libros de Timmy. Los animales de los chicos. Las verduras de la chica.

4 When using “DE” before a masculine- singular word: DE + EL = DEL **** “del” can mean:of the or from the 1. Son las frutas del chico. 2. Es la fiesta del amigo. 3. Me gustan las películas del profesor.

5 When using the NAME of a person: Just use “DE” followed by the NAME 1. 2. El helado de Paula. La música de Shakira.

6 Notice that the word order is REVERSED when using “DE” to show possession. 1. John’s cat  the cat of John  2. Lucy’s pizza  the pizza of Lucy  3. The girl’s car  the car of the girl  el gato de John la pizza de Lucy el carro de la chica
