2 SIZE AND LOCATION The Himalaya Mountains are 380,292 square miles. The highest elevation is Mt. Everest at 29,029 feet. The sub-Himalayas range between 3,000 and 4,000 feet. The Himalayas in Nepal, a country, have over 250 beautiful peaks, which all have 6,000 meters in height. About 75% of Nepal is covered by the Himalaya Mountains. The Himalayas was made 5,000,000 years ago. The Himalayas are on the countries of Pakistan, India, Bhutan, China, and Afghanistan.

3 Some of the worlds major river systems arise in the Himalayas. Three of them are the Indus, the Ganges, and the Tsango- Brahmaputra River. There are many basins, or large holes in the ground that are covered by rain or snow water, in the Himalayas. 3 billion people in 18 countries survive off of these basins.

4 PEOPLE LIVING IN THE HIMALAYAS You may think that its impossible to live in the Himalayas because it’s too cold or people can’t live in mountains, but that’s wrong! You can! The rivers can help. They can use the water to drink and to bathe in. People also can cut down trees and build homes to live in. They have a number around 6 million people living in the Himalayas mountain range. The Sherpa people live in The mountains of eastern Nepal.
