EDUCATION AND SOCIETY Provides training in: - sports sciences - teaching in school and pre-school - special needs education - study and careers guidance We also provide: - freestanding courses - one- and two-year Master’s programmes, continuing professional development and contract education - research studies

EDUCATION AND SOCIETY - Home to one of Sweden’s major teacher training programmes. 1 out of 10 school teachers studied at Malmö University. The Faculty provides training in all four teaching degrees: - Pre-School Education (210 credits) - Primary Education (pre-school and years 1–3, years 4–6, 240 credits, and specialising in extended school, 180 credits) - Secondary Education (years 7–9, 270 credits, and specialising in upper secondary school, 300 credits) - Vocational Education (90 credits) Furthermore: - Top-up teacher training (90 credits), top-up training for teachers with international degrees (ULV) and qualifying training for teachers without degrees (VAL).

WORK PLACEMENT – INTERNSHIP All professional training programmes include work placements (VFU). In the teacher training programmes the work placements comprise 5 times 4 weeks throughout the programme and take place at schools or pre-schools in one of Malmö University’s partner areas.

PLACEMENT SCHOOLS AND PARTNER SCHOOLS - The students conduct their work placements at one placement school, partner school or organisation throughout the programme - A work placement supervisor from Malmö University follows and assesses the student throughout the programme - The Faculty provides training for work placement supervisors who supervise the students at the school Since 2014 the Faculty conducts a trial study of placement schools in cooperation with the municipalities. The aim is to enhance the quality of the teacher training programmes and the students’ professional development. Schools apply to become placement schools.

OUTREACH The Faculty receives commissions from schools, municipalities, public agencies and organisations. - The aim is to develop learning. Major assignments include the Boost for Teachers, Better Pre-School, Reading Boost and Learning of New Arrivals CPD programmes. - The assignments are funded by the commissioning organisation. - The Faculty’s revenue from contract education totalled SEK 24.7 million in 2014. - The Faculty’s ambition is to strengthen the cooperation with arts institutions and creative enterprises.

RESEARCH STUDIES Research studies can be conducted in: Sports Sciences, specialising in the humanities and social sciences History and History Didactics Science and Mathematics Education Education Swedish and Didactics Malmö University has degree- awarding powers for postgraduate degrees in sports sciences and educational sciences. 44 doctoral and licentiate students were enrolled in May 2015. A further 8 students were admitted in September 2015

RESEARCH Research at the Faculty is conducted in the areas of Sports Sciences and Educational Sciences. It is in a process of continuous growth and development. - The point of departure for research in Sports Sciences is that societal aspects such as gender, class and cultural diversity have an impact on sports just as sports have an impact on society - The research environment of Educational Sciences is multidisciplinary and focused on actual practices. It consists of the following areas: the organisation and professions of the educational system, the content and teaching of different programmes of study, and the life situations and processes of identity formation of children and youth. The different areas are studied in relation to economic, social, technological, linguistic and cultural change.
