Jesus shows us, in this passage, the key areas of discipleship that lay the groundwork for an effective ministry to the world.

22. DISCIPLES OF JESUS MUST:
ENDURE REJECTION.

23. When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem.

24. And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” But he turned and rebuked them. And they went on to another village.

Enduring rejection, eliminating self-confidence, avoiding excuses, and turning from double-mindedness to be a disciple takes great strength.

Disciples of Jesus look to him for strength.
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 (NLT)

33. What Jesus taught His disciples and the multitudes appeared to have had done them little good. They lacked power, love, and discipline, and they grieved His heart.

34. If we lack these spiritual essentials today, we can never truly be His disciples, but they are available to us from the Lord.
