What is Diversity? Diversity is made up of those things that make us different and unique. The differences in each of us are the diversity we share.

Diversity and Ourselves Our shared values are the glue that holds us together. Each of us has unique characteristics We learn about the world by experiencing different cultures and ways Exploring those differences shows us how much alike we are.

Diversity and Teams Diversity brings opportunities and challenges to a team. Differences can be good – –Bring fresh ideas to a group –Challenges everyone to find new solutions Teams work best when everyone shares the same basic values.

Diversity in Others Valuing people and embracing diversity helps us make the most of the talents of everyone in the group. Everyone is different There are things in others that we can appreciate, value, and respect.

How We Respond Help each other appreciate the fun times Get through the tough times The answer is found in the Scout Law – –A Scout is Friendly, Courteous, Cheerful, Kind Abide by the Scout Law to serve as examples of the core values we cherish Make Ethical Decisions

Diversity and Scouting R each – invite others with differences to join. O rganize – make them feel welcome. P ractice – use the skills taught to build on diversity in your team and unit. E xperience – is a terrific teacher.

Summary The Scout Oath and Law define our common values. People are different. –Everyone brings something to a team. –Value these differences –Seek the best from each other. Diversity is a strength for building a group, holding its interest, getting things done, and having fun and adventure.
