What is problem solving? To us, problem solving is: Seeking relevant information to gain an understanding. Searching for opinions, predictions and conflicting facts. Simplifying the facts into a solution that takes into account all relevant stakeholders.

Could you accurately identify the whole problem? I wanted to hear that the Global problem is that we are running out of oil. Alaska has reserves of oil left, and potentially more lays undiscovered. Alaska relies heavily on the employment produced in the oil industry, but wildlife is paying the price through oil spills (Exxon Valdez 1989) ?

Students who study Geography are encouraged to consider solutions, and formulate their own points of view.

Videos, showing interviews with only one side or another. Chances for group debates, where students have an opportunity to vote using their instinct. Coursework and common assessments are designed to test students on their ability to justify the decisions they have made. We believe that students who study Geography leave with the skills to identify problems, and understand what is required to help them resolve them too!
