1 The United States Constitution The Constitution explains how the federal government works, unites the 50 states under one federal government, and describes the rights that people in the United States have. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land.

2 The three branches of the U.S. Government are the legislative, executive, and judicial. The Legislative Branch makes the laws. The Executive Branch makes sure the laws passed by Congress are carried out. The Judicial Branch makes sure that the laws are carried out fairly.

3 All the people of the United States share the same form of government.

4 The Senate and the House of Representatives make up the legislative branch of the government. The judicial branch of the federal government checks the powers of the legislative branch by ruling that a law does not follow the Constitution.

5 When the Constitution was ratified in 1789, many people were concerned that it did not protect certain freedoms. They thought that the Constitution should be changed or amended to protect these freedoms.amended On December 15, 1791, ten amendments were added to the Constitution. These amendments guarantee certain freedoms and rights, so they are known as the Bill of Rights. Some of the freedoms and rights protected in the Bill of Rights include: Freedom of Religion Freedom of Assembly To Keep and Bear Arms Freedom of Speech Freedom of the Press Protection for those Accused of Crimes

6 The President is the head of the Executive Branch of our government.

7 The United States form alliances with other countries to maintain peaceful relations around the world.

8 Each level of government has the responsibility to collect taxes.

9 American citizens have the responsibility to obey the law.
