Kickoff Meeting – 2015/2016

Club Overview The purpose of the NASH Ski & Board Club is to provide opportunities for NASH students to participate in a fun and healthy outdoor winter activity with their friends at an affordable price. The club will be run by Pam Kohlmann along with Mr. Kyriazis and an advisory board made up of NASH students. All club trips will be on evenings or weekends and will be chaperoned by North Allegheny Teachers.

Key Points Trips will depart from the NAI Auditorium entrance and return to the NAI back parking lot. There will be a minimum of 2 chaperones per bus. Upon arriving at Seven Springs student skiers will be acquainted with the resort and where to go if they are in need of help. First Aid office is located on the same level as the cafeteria behind the cafeteria. While there students must stay in groups of at least two at all times. All students are required to wear a helmet while skiing or boarding. Students are free to ski the resort on their own (but in groups). If students need assistance they are to go to the skier services desk in the main ski lodge (or in an emergency waive down any ski patrol person) and they will call Mrs. Kohlmann, Mr. Kyriazis or a designated chaperone. All chaperones will be “on call” throughout the activity through a phone chain.

Rules During all trips strict rules will be followed to ensure the safety of all participants. It is imperative that students strive to be safe. If students make poor decisions or ski / board in an unsafe manner it puts the entire club in jeopardy. While at Seven Springs, you are under the laws and rules of the local police and the ski patrol. Any problems that occur at the resort may result in your expulsion from the ski club without a refund. If you are caught smoking, drinking, or using other drugs at Seven Springs you will be referred to the Seven Springs Police and your parents will have to come to Seven Springs to pick you up. Additionally, these students will be subject to the North Allegheny Code of Conduct. Students are never permitted to ski alone and must wear a helmet at all times while skiing or boarding. If students are disciplined by the Ski Patrol they may lose future participation privileges.

Funding Funding for the Club will be provided through student registration fees. All monies collected will be handled through a NAI student activities account and will follow rules set up for those accounts. Student fees will be used toward; the purchase of lift tickets, bus transportation, and chaperone lift tickets. Payments for ski, helmet, or board rentals and lessons will be made directly to Seven Springs on the days of the trips. It is impossible to predict the exact costs the club will incur throughout the season due to varying student attendance. For this reason there is some cushion built into the budget, however the budget will be zeroed out at the end of each year. Any money left in the club account at the end of the season will be used toward lowering the cost of purchasing ski club gear for the club participants.

Communication ●Check the NASH Ski & Board Club 2014-2015 Web Page to get updates and announcements on trips. Text / email alerts will also be sent when updates are made. ●Students and parents must also sign up for the Remind text service so I can quickly and efficiently communicate when / if needed. 9 Trip Itinerary Storing Equipment During School Day Equipment can be stored in the auditorium foyer during the school day. Students should take their equipment straight to the auditorium foyer upon arriving at school. Your ski bag should be marked so you do not confuse it. Students should limit carry-ons to one bag plus ski equipment. Departure from the NASH ●The bus will start loading at 2:40 p.m. (after the school buses depart) in the front of the auditorium foyer and leave by 2:50 p.m. ●You must load your own equipment onto the bus. If you do not load your own equipment it will be left behind. ●Before getting on the bus, you need to check in with the supervising chaperon. If you are paying for rentals or lessons, you need to have exact change to give to the chaperon upon boarding the bus. Departure from Seven Springs Start making your way back to the buses at 10:00 p.m. The bus will leave at 10:15 p.m. If you are late, you may not be welcome on future ski trips. Anyone that is not coming home on the bus must turn in a permission form signed by your parents ahead of the trip and be picked up at the scheduled departure time by a parent or designated adult..
