All rights reserved. 5 Tools they use … ► They use cameras and for photographing crime scenes. ► They use evidence collection kits for collecting samples from a crime scene. ► They use ultraviolet lamps to illuminate fluids and fingerprints. ► They use computer databases, such as fingerprint identification systems.

All rights reserved. 6 Working conditions… ► CSIs may work indoors in offices or crime labs. ► They may also be called to crime scenes outdoors in any type of weather. ► CSIs may be called to crime scenes any time of the day or night, including weekends and holidays.

All rights reserved. 7 Training required… ► CSIs must have a high school diploma or GED. ► Most CSIs are trained police officers. ► Many departments require a 2-year degree or certificate in criminal justice. ► Forensic scientists need 4-year degrees in science, such as biology or chemistry.

All rights reserved. 9 Income… ► Average income for a Crime Scene Investigator is about $58,000 per year. ► CSIs who are police officers have better pay and benefits than CSIs who are civilians. ► The Bureau of Labor Statistics lists forensic science technicians as one of the fastest growing occupations today.
