Police officers are to maintain order and peace within the city. They protect members of the public and their property, prevent crime, and reduce the fear of crime. I’m interested in this career because it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. Basically I want to help people.

Values They would have to be caring, protective, courageous, brave and compassionate. Calmness also a good value because to keep peace you must be calm so that everyone will be relaxed and listen.

Tasks and responsibilities They’re supposed to protect people and maintain peace. They have to uphold the law and maintain order to the city.

Working with data, people, and things police officers work with data for investigations or people they have recently brought into custody. They work with people either it be partners, ride along, or trainees. They learn to use all types of things whether it is a gun, radio, or tazer

Work environment Some officer’s work in certain districts and some work in offices. Some also investigate specific types of crimes such as homicides and sexual assaults.

Working hours They usually work full time. Rookie officers have to work overnight and on weekends. Officers in certain departments have to work overtime.

Aptitudes and abilities They need natural abilities like instinct, courage, and judgment.

Education and training You need at least a high school diploma or the equivalent of education, must be a U.S citizen, 21 years old or older, posses a valid driver’s license, and must have no prior convictions. You must have 12-14 weeks of training from a police academy.

Salary and benefits Their annual salary is $54,505. Their pay hourly is $26. Benefits include health care, social security, time off, and pension.

Career outlook opportunities for police officers may vary but it’s expected to grow 7%.

Defense lawyer Lawyers specialize in a variety of things whether it be bankruptcy, international, environmental, or corporate. In addition a sizable number of lawyers work for the government at every level. I’ve just always wondered what it’s like to be in that line of work.

Values Lawyers are open-minded, smart, and clever. They need to be this in order to do their job. They have to look at the situation from both sides.

Task and responsibilities Interpret rulings, rulings and regulations for individuals and businesses. Analyze possible outcomes for cases, using knowledge and legal precedents.

Working with data, people, and things Their clients and for when they have to analyze the case they are presented.

Work environment A majority of layers work in private corporate legal offices. Some work for local, state, and federal government.

Working hours The majority work full time, some just work long hours. Some lawyers have flexible work times. It all depends on the area you are in.

Aptitudes and abilities They need to have critical reasoning, verbal skills, political awareness and stamina. They also need to have expression, comprehension, analytical abilities, and problem solving skills.

Education and training Lawyers must have a 4-year undergraduate degree from a college or university. They must take 3 years of law school.

Salary and benefits -Some lawyers are on different scale but the highest a lawyer is paid is $150,000. They also receive for weeks paid time off per year, ten paid holidays per year, health and dental plans, etc.

Lifestyle Its long hours, talking to your clients, reviewing paperwork and even more reading because being a lawyer isn’t as glamorous as it seems.
