Colonial Growth- Long term causes to the American Revolution What events developed over time and lead the colonists to advance in self government and ultimately split from England?

Colonial Society grows in the 1700’s 1700- English colonies had 250,000 people 1750- English colonies had 1, 500, 000 people Immigration High birth rate/increased life expectancy Diverse population English, Welsh Scotch-Irish France, Germany, Switzerland Social classes Aristocracy of wealth and education (planters and merchants) or (clergy, printers, lawyers) Middle class (small farmers and skilled workers) Lower class (indentured servants and slaves) Colonists could improve their social status with hard work, with the exception of slaves

Proclamation of 1763- colonists may not settle beyond the Appalachian mountains England begins taxing the colonists
