6. Certifications ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 are implemented and certified in all our facilities. Our laboratories are accredited according to ISO 17025 by ENAC (Spanish accreditation body). In 2003, AZTI-Tecnalia decided to adopt the EFQM excellence model as a tool for assessment and review for the whole of the organisation. © AZTI-Tecnalia. All rights reserved

7. EFQM AZTI-Tecnalia has already done a fourth self-assessment exercise to measure the impact of the improvements (score increased from 400 to 610 in 2010). Besides this, we carried out three external-assessment exercises in 2006, 2008 and 2009 (score increased from 386 to 489) and this year we are applying for the golden Q Award granted by the Basque Government (>500 points).

8. Leadership Who are the leaders in AZTI-Tecnalia ? Not only the CEO, directors and area coordinators are Leaders. In order to gain flexibility and responsiveness, the empowerment to lead has to be cascaded throughout the organization. We have a list of 43 leaders that contribute to the management and change of processes. We carried out two leadership assessment exercises in 2008 and 2010 with its correspondent improvement plan.

9. Strategy No organization operates in the vacuum. It interacts with other interested parties or Stakeholders: - Our Customers - Our People - Our Partners - The Society in which we operate - Our Patrons (AZTI-Tecnalia is a fundation with a patronage) In AZTI-Tecnalia, communication of the plans for the future is recognized as a two way process: top down and bottom up. We try to make our plans for the future relevant and meaningful to our people by converting them to specific objectives linked to the tasks that individuals and teams perform.specific objectives linked to the tasks

10. People In AZTI-Tecnalia we try to match the People we employ with the culture of our organization and vice-versa or they will find it frustrating and hard to integrate. We are using standard tools and techniques that help to assess the suitability of individuals for a job, however we should take this field to next level through an improvement plan. In AZTI-Tecnalia, performance evaluations are conducted on an annual basis. Some of the main objectives are: review past performance against objectives, recognise success, identify skills and competencies, agree objectives for future performance and identify training and personal development needs.

11. Partnerships AZTI-Tecnalia plans and manages external partnerships, suppliers and internal resources in order to support strategy and policies and the effective operation of processes. We build a sustainable relationship with partners based on mutual trust, respect and transparency. Currently we are managing 8 different partnerships. One of them, of great relevance for our organisation, with SINTEF Fisheries and aquiculture.

12. Processes AZTI-Tecnalia designs and manages Processes to optimise value for stakeholders. We base our management in the framework 10 processes. For their development, maintenance and improvement we have clearly defined leaderships, roles and responsibilities. Business processes (those processes that deliver the added value product or service to the customer) are managed by the Strategic Executive Committee and the Support processes & Management processes (those processes that provide the resources required for the Business processes to work in accordance with the overall strategy and objectives of the organisation) are managed by the Management Executive Committee.
