3 fats  source of energy  9 calories per gram  Three types  Unsaturated fats:  found in plants and fish.  Saturated fats:  found in meat and milk products  Trans fats:  found in margarine  produced when diet provides calories not used

4 protein  Helps the tissues in your body  makes specialized molecules with specific jobs  Others are used to build cardiac muscle  Protein foods are broken into amino acids  Complete protein  Meats, Dairy, incomplete, plants

5 fibre  Soluble fibre  slows down the sugar in the blood  Prevents constipation  Prevents heart disease  Helps and cleans your colons  Fiber foods include  Grains, vegetables, and dried fruits

6 Vitamins  All vitamins have a special role to play  Vitamin D  milk helps your bones.  Vitamin A  carrots helps you see at night.  Vitamin C  oranges helps heal cuts.  Vitamin B  leafy green vegetables helps body make protein /energy.  two types of vitamins:  fat soluble  foods with fat-soluble are stored in fat tissues in body and liver  Water soluble  foods with those vitamins travel through your blood  Fights off colds and helps body's immune system

7 Minerals  There are two types  Macro minerals  needed in larger quantities by the body  They include calcium, potassium, phosphorous, etc……  trace minerals  needed by the body  They include iron, manganese, copper, etc…..  chemical substances that your body needs

8 water  Your body is 60 to 70 percent water.  Parts of body that have water in it include  Blood  muscles  lungs  brain  You need water to help body temperature  helps nutrients travel to areas that need it.  Water also  transports oxygen  removes waste  protects your joints and organs.
