4 Connection to Civil War and Reconstruction Pe ople continued to move west for farming, to raise cattle, and mining Native Americans and Mexicanos faced threats to their culture for new settlers Even though Native Americans fought for their freedom, over hunting by whites, and legislation forced Native Americans to change. Life in the west was difficult, but all groups contributed to its development. Even before the Civil War, factory production had spread beyond the northern textile mills to other regions and industries. The Industrial Revolution represents the time when the US begins to mass produce products in factories instead of individually in homes.
