Martine van Schouwenburg Postdoctoral researcher Cognition and Plasticity lab Brain and Cognition Department of Psychology
2
-Neural correlates of cognition (for example attention) -Ways to improve cognition Techniques we use in the lab: fMRI, EEG, tDCS/tACS, cognitive training, pharmacology Cognition and Plasticity lab PI Heleen Slagter
3
Can we improve attention with brain stimulation? Attention is associated with certain patterns of oscillatory activity * Also other projects available
4
Top-down control of attention Posner, 1980 Reaction time
5
Top-down control of attention Handel et al., 2010
6
Can we improve attention with brain stimulation? Attention is associated with certain patterns of oscillatory activity By actively modulating oscillatory activity (using tACS) we will – look at the causal role of this oscillatory activity in attention – see if we can improve attention * Also other projects available
7
Techniques used: tACS and EEG You will be involved in all steps of the project including subject recruitment, data acquisition, data analysis etc. Main supervisor of the project: Heleen Slagter Can we improve attention with brain stimulation?
8
Ideal student: -can start in January -works independently -has (some) experience with tDCS/tACS -programming skills (Matlab) Can we improve attention with brain stimulation?
