7.  Talk with your partner: Why do you think Orwell spends so much time developing a book within the book? What is his purpose? Goldstein’s book is a satire about the economic, social, and political situations occurring in the 20 th century (Russia, Hitler, totalitarianism, socialism, etc)

8.  In ideal, many political, economic, and social theories are wonderful. In reality, there are complex problems created by ANY theory.  Talk with your partner: why do you think this is?

9.  Our theory in America is capitalism, freedom offers equality of opportunity.  If there were a Goldstein book out their satirizing our ideal theories, what would the title be?  Write your title with a 3-5 sentence explanation of why you chose that?
