3 OLIGARCHYCOLLECTIVISM  is a form of power structure in which power effectively rests with a small number of people. These people could be distinguished by royalty, wealth, family ties, corporate, or military controlpower structure power  is any philosophic, political, economic or social outlook that emphasizes the interdependence of every human in some collective group and the priority of group goals over individual goals. Collectivists usually focus on community, society or nation. 7  Talk with your partner: Why do you think Orwell spends so much time developing a book within the book? What is his purpose? Goldstein’s book is a satire about the economic, social, and political situations occurring in the 20 th century (Russia, Hitler, totalitarianism, socialism, etc)

8  In ideal, many political, economic, and social theories are wonderful. In reality, there are complex problems created by ANY theory.  Talk with your partner: why do you think this is?

9  Our theory in America is capitalism, freedom offers equality of opportunity.  If there were a Goldstein book out their satirizing our ideal theories, what would the title be?  Write your title with a 3-5 sentence explanation of why you chose that?
