2 Emerald Ash Borer Affects Ash Trees Green in Color  Adults do little damage to foliage  Larva will eat under the bark  Kills the tree Discovered in 2002  Came over from infected trees Invasive Species  Native to Asia

3 Damage Over ten million ash trees destroyed  Large cost to clean up  Need to burn the wood  Can not cross state lines Hundreds of thousands of dollars spent for prevention  A variety of pesticides  Can get very costly  Biological approach?

4 Beauveria Bassiana A white fungus Infects a variety of arthropods Is harmless to humans Easy to grow and harvest for insecticides Shown to destroy emerald ash borer

5 Beauveria bassiana Aggressive parasitic fungus  Kills in a variety of insects Infects both adults/larva stages The spores are tiny  A few microns in length  Able to get into nooks of ash trees

6 Benefits Does not harm trees  Can be applied as powered  To infected/Not infected trees Cost is greatly decreased  Depending on size  Saving up to $2,000 : acre Can survive for multiple years  Either in the trees  In the soil
