EXPLORING INVENTIONS AND INNOVATIONS Unit 1
2
Vocabulary Activity In groups of 2 or 3, you will visit each vocabulary word. You will need to write down the word and its definition in your EDJ (or a piece of paper if you STILL don’t have it). You will have TWO MINUTES at each station. Do not switch stations until you hear the music change. Please push in your chairs when you leave the station. You need to rotate CLOCKWISE when it is time to move (follow the arrows). After the 9 th rotation, return to your assigned seat.

Technology vs. Science Technology The study of the application of knowledge, creativity, and resources to solve problems and extend human potential. Science The study of the natural world through observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanations. TPS Activity: Write an example of technology and an example of science in your EDJ.
4
Needs and Wants Need – Something you must have to survive. Want – Something to make things easier or solve problems. Examples of NEEDS? Examples of WANTS?

8
How Other Subjects Relate… Science contributes to the development of technology. Mathematics makes sure technology is developed with precision and accuracy. History lets us know what technologies have or have not worked as well as the impacts they have had. Think of a technology that could not have been developed without science, mathematics, and history. How have science, mathematics, and history contributed to its development or improvement? Record this in your EDJ.
9
Exit Ticket Think of one technology that might impact society in a positive AND negative way… List the technology and it’s impacts on your comment card – turn this in before you leave the classroom! #TechnologyAndSociety
10
Positively AND Negatively? What are some more examples of technology that might impact the environment, our culture, politics, etc. both positively and negatively?
