Try to guess these riddles! 1 What belongs only to you, but is used most often by others? Your name. 2 When I am clean, I am black. When I am dirty, I am white. What am I? A blackboard. 3 What has legs, but can not walk? A table.

Past Simple affirmative – regular verbs Spelling 1 The normal rule is to add -ed worked started If the verb ends in -e, add -d lived closed loved 2 If the verb has only one syllable + one vowel + one consonant, double the consonant stopped travelled planned 3 If the verb ends in a consonant + -y, change the -y to -ied studied carried There are many common irregular verbs. See the list of them in the coursebook.

Form The form of the Past Simple is the same for all persons. Positive I He/She/It We You They finished arrived went yesterday.

Past Simple - negative The negative of the Past Simple is formed with didn´t He walked away. He didn´t walk away. I He/She/It We You They didn´t did not arrive.

Past Simple - question The question is the Past Simple is formed with did She finished work. When did she finish ? When did I you he she they arrive?

Use 1 The Past Simple expresses a past action that is now finished. We played tennis yesterday. I worked in London from 1999 to 2004. 2 Notice the time expressions that are used with the Past Simple. last week. I did it three years ago. in 2001. yesterday morning.
