Activities 1. Throughout the unit, students will take journeys to places around the world using the internet and other books. Bring in food and other examples from that culture for students to experience. 2. Do the Flat Stanley project and send Stanley all over the world. 3. Bring in guest speakers to talk about their cultural background and how it relates to us. 4. Discuss differences in people from around the world and how we are all really the same in many ways. 5. Keep travelogues or diaries by students about what they Learned or are learning about different cultures.

Activities 1.Create a classroom map of your community. Use symbols to represent airports and other common landmarks. 2. Create a fictional map of a fictional town. Let students plan and decide where to put houses, schools, gas stations ect... 3. Using the cardinal directions, have students work with these directions in the classroom. For example- Group one meets by the north pencil sharpener or group two meets by the east computers. 4. Discuss ways to help disaster victims and actually send relief items to disaster areas. 5. Using internet sites create maps to various places.

Activities 1.Put students in groups and tell them they are community leaders. Give each group a different social issue to solve. 2. Discuss decision making under pressure. Role play the results of good and bad decisions. 3. Using a chart, have students classify goods and services within the school and community. 4. Graph what the US imports and exports. 5. Using priceline.com, allow students in groups to shop for a list of items.

Activities 1.Create classroom rules, consequences, and a due process. 2. Put voluntary students on trial for an imaginary crime, use lawyers and a judge and jury. 3. Set-up the classroom for an election. Discuss important issues and elect leaders. 4. Bring in government officials to discuss their role in society. 5. List issues important to students and ways that they can use the democratic process to change things.

Activities 1.Bring in community leaders to discuss the responsibility of managing a community. 2. Group students and have them create a project about reaching goals. Let them set a goal, delegate tasks, perform responsibilities and decide if the goals were reached. 3. Investigate, using the Better Business Bureau, businesses and evaluate them to make decisions. 4. Make a chart correlating rights with responsibilities. 5. Analyze the Bill of Rights and discuss what they mean and why they were created.
