What does Islam teach us about charity? Islam teaches us that individuals have a responsibility towards helping people in need. Giving charity holds a very important place in Islam. It is one of the five pillars of the faith. ‘And feed the needy..’ (Quran 78:8) ‘Every act of goodness is charity.’ Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)

What does Islam teach us about charity? Every Muslim household is required to give 2.5% of their income to charity, if they are able to afford it. This is called Zakah. During Eid-ul-Adha, the Eid of Sacrifice Muslims give Qurbani which means they sacrifice an animal so the poor can eat meat. Many Muslims choose to donate their Zakah to Islamic Relief and other aid agencies.
