Intro Game: Interviews! Pair up with someone from a different program You have 5 minutes to interview each other. Please find out the following information What is their name? What do they teach? Coffee or Tea? What is their hobby? What is the craziest thing you have ever done? (work appropriate) After 5 minutes you will introduce your partner to the group

Who is Your Dean and What Does he Do? As Dean of Students we aim to… Facilitate open communication between teachers and administrators Set academic grade level projects Organize a Student Motivator System Aid teachers with student disciplinary issues Organize the Advisor Programme

What is the Advisor Progamme? Advisors will meet will be assigned a small group of students to monitor and aid through supplemental academic sessions These sessions will occur every other Monday from 4:20 to 4:50 You will be allotted a certain number of sessions to cover each topic, but how you wish to cover the topic will be up to the advisor Advisors may combine groups and work together if they wish Advisors will fill out a simple “Session Minutes” form to be turned into the Dean that week. Everyone here is an advisor…..surprise….

What are the Challenges/Goals for the Year? Break up into program groups (A/AP/IB) Discuss the general challenges we will face and the goals we should set for ourselves Year 11 Goals: Promotion of English Communication outside the classroom Writing Personal Statements Choosing Career Paths

How to Promote Good Communication between our Staff? Break up in to mixed program groups Discuss how best to promote good communication between: Chinese/Western Staff Cross – Curriculum Staff Cross – Program Staff

What is the School’s Discipline Policy? Form groups of both new and returning staff Discuss methods for dealing with the following discipline issues: Inappropriate use of technology in the classroom Tardiness / Absences Plagiarism / Copying homework School’s Discipline Policy: First Offence Verbal Warning Second Offence Appropriate action by teacher Third Offence Report to Dean of Students Fourth Offence Inform parents of issue Fifth Offence Meeting with parents

How will we Motivate our Students? Discuss in small groups how best to motivate… Communicate in English both inside and outside the classroom Personal growth outside the classroom “Passport to Success” Students are rewarded stamps for exemplary use of English inside/outside the classroom Taking part in extra-curricular activities and academic challenges Acts of kindness, leadership, etc… Hitting certain benchmarks is rewarded with badges Top 10 at mid-term/final receive special badges All stamps are rewarded at the teachers’ discretion
