Understanding Points, Lines, and Planes
2
You should be able to… Identify, name, and draw points, lines, segments, rays and planes. Apply basic facts about points, lines and planes.
3
In 3-4 sentences, write about your first day of new classes. You can include anything you are nervous about or excited about for this semester. Also, you can include your hopes for this class. It is up to you what you write about!

EndpointName with a capital letter C and D Point at one end of a segment or the starting point of a ray. C D
11
TermNameDiagramAdditional Notes Ray Points or lines that lie in the same plane and extends in one direction R S
12
TermNameDiagramAdditional Notes Ray Points or lines that lie in the same plane Opposite Rays 2 rays that share an endpoint and form a line R S F EG
13
How is a line and a line segment the same? A line segment is a specific portion of a line that begins and ends. How is a line and a line segment different? A line goes on forever in both directions, while a segment has endpoints
14
How is a line segment and a ray the same? A ray and a line segment are both parts of a line. How is a lien segment and a ray different? A line segment has 2 endpoints. A ray has 1 endpoint and extends forever in one direction.
15
Draw and label each of the following. A segment with endpoints U and V.Opposite Rays with a common endpoint Q. Draw and label a ray with endpoint M that contains N
17
Name each figure.
18
Draw and label a picture for each name.
19
Use the figure to name the following.
22
Draw and label a diagram for the figure.
23
Name each figure using words and symbols.
24
Name the plane in two different ways.
25
Drawings of postulate 1-1-1 Through any two points there is exactly one line. 1-1-1
26
Drawings of postulate 1-1-2 Through any three noncollinear points there is exactly one plane containing them. 1-1-2
27
Drawings of postulate 1-1-3 If two points lie in a plane, then the line containing those points lie in the plane. 1-1-3
28
Drawings of postulate 1-1-4 If two lines intersect, then they intersect in exactly one points. 1-1-4
29
Drawings of postulate 1-1-5 If two planes intersect, then they intersect in exactly one line. 1-1-5

Does anyone have questions regarding the vocabulary we went over. Does anyone have questions regarding the postulates we went over. Remember this is key for the rest of Geometry. You need to start memorizing the vocabulary.
