Calculating Carpentry Materials Many building materials are sold by the square foot or in units that combine square footage such as a square or a sheet Square foot: 1 foot (12”) x 1 foot (12”) or 144 square inches Calculate number of square feet by multiplying length x width (in feet)

Calculating Carpentry Materials A 4’x8’ sheet of plywood is 32 square feet A square of shingles has 100 square feet One story building costs can be estimated by using square feet x cost per square foot Examples 1000 square ft x $10/square
