1.Do you like to eat breakfast? What do you like to eat? Does it vary from day to day or do you like to generally eat the same thing? Do you eat different things on the weekend or on Sunday? Do you have different food for different special occasions, like for visitors or a birthday? 2.Do you like to eat breakfast with your family or friends or alone or with friends? 3.Do you read or watch TV when you eat? 4.Have you ever ordered breakfast in another country where the food was not familiar? If yes, share your experiences. How was it different or challenging for you? Do you have any funny stories of different cultural norms or rituals and their expectations? Exercise 1

ROLE PLAY 1.In pairs, continue the conversation and interaction in the video between the proprietor of the restaurant and Howard, the guest visiting England. Continue the conversation from the replacement of the milk for the espresso. Imagine that the meal arrives. How does Howard react to the meal, especially the black pudding? 2.In small groups of four, imagine that you are visiting a foreign country where the people do not speak your language. You walk into a restaurant to order breakfast. The waiter or waitress hands you a menu in a language you cannot read. How will you communicate what you want to eat and if they can prepare it for you? Prepare a skit, with two people being involved in the restaurant and the other as two guests. Decide where the interaction takes place and what will be the outcome. Present it to the rest of the class. Exercise 5

ROLE PLAY 3.You are a new group of investors planning to open a new restaurant. You want to offer a different kind of dining experience and different kind of menu than people are accustomed to. You want to do something inventive. You want to blend tastes, cultures, and cuisine together in an innovative and creative way. What kind of food and drinks would you offer? What kinds of names would you give to the dishes and drinks? Have a discussion and brainstorm ideas. Prepare a comical skit of the owners trying to agree on what they will do and how they will do it.
