Why Health Science Career Cluster? Employment potential Critical Skills Shortage Initiative (CSSI) Long term shortage of workers in health care Determine causes of shortages Access to Industry Industry Support Access to workplace learning

Health Science Career Cluster Goals Promote activities and resources that will help interest students in a healthcare career. Expand career development programs in Illinois Develop a statewide Health Science curriculum model Support school reform Build a cadre of potential employee candidates that will meet current and projected workforce demands.

Health Science Career Cluster Goals (cont’d) Assist with building systemic partnerships that are sustainable and of benefit to the health care community, educators and students. Create a common language Develop a strategic plan together Align education needs with industry resources Learn each others culture Establish clear actionable expectations Build a sustainable relationship Get the right players to the table

Scope Cluster will… Provide Career Development activities to K-12 students at each site (i.e., career awareness, exploration, and career planning) Increase articulation opportunities for students Support Illinois’ Economic Development Plan Align to Illinois Learning Standards

Advisory Committee Consists of representatives from: Business and Industry Associations (AMA, IHA, and MCHC) Secondary and Post-Secondary Health Occupation Education Committee provides advice on: Sustaining Health Science Career Cluster programs Expanding the program to additional sites Initiating an information website Garnering support from a wide audience
