1 How to do the presentations in this seminar course R. Wei

2 Decide a topic A topic in this seminar is quite flexible. It can be a very large topic It can be a very specific topic Topic can be changed during this course

3 Arrangement of presentations In most cases, a student cannot arrange all of his/her presentations in the beginning Usually, first presentation will be introduction The followed presentations depend on the materials found and read later. The followed presentations also depend on discussions.

4 Example Suppose I choose the topic: secrete sharing scheme. In first talk I will include following things: What is secrete sharing and why we investigate secrete sharing Give formal definitions and examples of secrete sharing. Give some math background of secrete sharing

5 Example (cont) In second presentation I might include the following Give some specific secrete sharing schemes Give some of the proofs An analysis of these schemes Some applications of secrete sharing Give one application in details Indicate some advantage and deficiency of that application

6 Example (cont) I might repeat some materials in the followed presentations Other students cannot understand my presentation, so I give more detailed explanation During discussion, some new problem or questions are raised Some thing I confused or don’t understand

7 Example (cont) Give some new idea about the application Give some improvement about known applications Indicate some errors in previous presentations. Give some idea for future researches.

8 Format of presentation The format of the presentation is flexible. You can use or not use power point to make slides. You can do the presentation without using slides. You can just use the white board or room camera to do the presentation. You should communicate with the audience during the presentation.

9 How to write the report for this course R. Wei

10 Choose the materials for the report Don’t put all the materials of your presentations into the report. The report should include most important materials about your research topic. The report can include materials not appeared in your presentation. I will distribute the requirements of a report later.

11 Format of the report Although you can use any text editor to type out your report, you are encouraged to use LaTex to prepare your report. LaTax has been used for scientific research papers for most journals and conferences. It is also recommended to use LaTex to write thesis and research papers in the future.
