1. Class discussion about our community and community helpers. 2. Do a group map activity with the Wash. C. H. map. 3. Make a class list of ways we can be active citizens. 4. Students will bring in non-perishable foods to donate to the food pantry on our field trip. 5. Field trip to visit the police station, fire station, hospital, library, and museum to take a tour and meet out community helpers.

Classroom centers will be set up as follows: 1. Computer center: Will have Neighborhood Map Machine, Diorama Designer, and How Things Work in Busy Time. 2. Art center: Use the many materials to create a picture of our community. 3. Reading Center: Will be filled with many books about communities. 4. Make Believe center: Use the clothes and accessories to pretend you’re a community helper. 5. Word center: Community centered words.
