Objectives Determine the implications of meditation in religion, self help, etc Determine the implications of hypnosis in the treatment of anxiety, depression, addiction Examine the benefits of posthypnotic suggestion

Meditation Used to find religion or self and in some medical treatments (stress and pain) Suppresses the nervous system, lowers metabolism, reduces heart and respiratory rates, decreases blood lactate and increases alpha waves

Hypnosis A trancelike state in which a person responds readily to suggestion Can tell a person to perceive things that aren’t there and can help in treating addiction, phobia, and even hemophilia CanNOT make someone do something dangerous or foolish against their will

Hypnosis for Pain Relief

Posthypnotic Suggestion Can help people beyond the hypnosis EX: A person suffering from chronic pain may be told to pull on their earlobe when it starts. This will trigger the suggestion that the pain is gone from the hypnosis session Most success with hypnosis is temporary!
