1 PRINCIPAL INTERNSHIP ANNIE JACOBS – CONNECTIONS TO EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP POLICY STANDARDS

2 PRINCIPAL INTERNSHIP – RED HILL AND MURRAY HIGH Instructional leadership – facilitated the collaboration, development, communication, implementation and evaluation of a shared vision of teaching and differentiated learning through weekly meetings to assess data and determine appropriate course of actions in reading and math support to improve student success. School Climate – fostered the success of all students by modeling and supporting a positive, safe learning environment and by teachers and students establishing rules to abide by, academically and socially, in the classroom and out on the play ground. Communication and Community Relations – through continuous meeting to discuss and support best practices to serve students, all staff agreed to model collaborative philosophy and behaviors to create a positive learning environment. All staff agreed to communicate regularly with administration and parents regarding the needs and progress of students. As principal intern, I established the daily ritual of greeting parents and meeting with them as the need arose.

3 PRINCIPAL INTERNSHIP - CONTINUED Students Academic progress – monitored learning levels and needs through observation, walkthroughs and interviews with teachers. Evaluated assessment data from SOLs and other high stakes testing to determine next strategy for individual student improvement. Met with teachers to determine appropriate programs, curriculum, strategies and other resources for improvement. Human Resources Management – established interventions for homebound students monitoring progress through assigned teacher and sending reports to Human resources. Professionalism – demonstrated professional standards and ethics when speaking with staff, parents, and agencies when student special services were in question. Organizational Management – assessed survey material, conducted interviews, and data to determine appropriate strategies and needs of students. Held weekly SBIT with staff to collaborate and determine reasonable actions for student safety and academic improvement. Over saw buses and dealt with disciple issues on the buses. Met with bus drivers to establish a positive working relationship.

4 PRINCIPAL INTERNSHIP - CONTINUED Professionalism – Working with an at- risk population, I had regular meeting with Safe Schools, counselors, Region Ten, and Peoples Places. Working in conjunction with these organization, guardians, and Human Resources, necessary implementations for extra support was determined, monitored and reported as per county requirements. Assessments and evaluations took place on a regular basis to determine implementation effectiveness and improvements or needs for other considerations. I conducted myself with transparency in words and actions and kept standards, community expectations, safety, and privacy a priority when dealing with individual needs. Often as the go-between school and principal, I was in a position to listen with empathy but maintain objectivity to do the right thing with regard to the situation. Student, parent, and teacher concerns and conflicts were resolved after meeting for assessment and collaboration. School-bus issues were challenging and resulted in setting up meetings with bus drivers to determine appropriate course of action and establish clear guidelines for bus behaviors. Bus tapes were pulled for viewing in some cases and alternative measures were taken to include, suspension, alternative bus provision, or termination of bus privileges.
