Problem of the Day The price list at the right shows the sale prices for DVDs in three different video stores. Which store has the better buy? KEY CONCEPT Rate A rate is a ratio that compares two unlike quantities. A unit rate is a ratio that is simplified to have a denominator of 1 unit. It compares an amount, x, to one unit… A unit cost is the price per unit of an item. To find the better buy, find the unit rate. Then compare unit rates.
