The National Picture OECD: a “world class” system Very well resourced by Scottish Government Produces a high quality workforce 98% success rate on TIS High retention rates Variable quality of the Flexible Route experience Potential to discourage diversity in provision More strategic use of funding for workforce planning would be helpful Continuing tension between real vacancies and student preferences

The Area Picture Developing partnerships: universities / local authorities / schools; coherence and continuity Innovative placement experiences Good quality professional learning programmes Increasing profile of practitioner enquiry Growing incidence of Masters level learning Variable engagement in co-ordinating student placements, probationer placements and Early Phase Coherence and continuity issues raised by geographically based partnerships Equity issues raised by innovative placement models

The Local / School Picture More consistency in professional judgements Better “gatekeeping” Assigned supporter with specific role and funding to provide dedicated time for the role Benefits for other teachers Variable use of funding for 0.1 FTE dedicated time for supporters Workload issues for teachers in joint assessment Supporter and teacher knowledge of university criteria, SPR and SFR but developing
