2 Different Uses  Of John – “Then the disciples of John came to Him…” (Mt. 9:14)  Pharisees & Blind man – “They they reviled him and said You are His disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples” (Jn. 9:28)  The twelve – Mt. 10:1; 11:1; 12:1  Those who abide in His word – Jn. 8:31; 13:34,35; 15:7,8  Those who obey Him, Acts 4:4; 6:1,2,7

3 Discipleship, Mt. 16:24-26  Self Denial – before can follow, must deny self-control (Phil. 2:5-8)  Aim – serve God fully (Mk. 10:17-24)  Not conditional service – “If I can serve money or pleasure,” “If I can keep my sinful habits,” “If I can attend when I please, give as I please.” I - still in control

4 Discipleship  Cross Bearing  The stake of crucifixion, Mt. 27:32  The crucifixion, 1 Cor. 1:17,18,23  The suffering of a Christian, Mt. 10:34-39  Not trouble as part of life, or brought on by lack of tact – but doing right regardless of the shame, disgrace or pain.

5 Discipleship  Following Christ – Lk. 9:23-26  Christ is the leader, 1 Pet. 2:21  Too many difficulties for some: too busy, too many worldly enticements, too many hypocrites, too many excuses!

6 Paul’s Attitude, Gal. 2:20  Identification – with Christ, Rom. 6:3-11  Empowerment – Christ lives in me, Phil. 4:13; 2 Cor. 4:16-18  Manner of Life – by faith, 2 Cor. 5:7  Motivation – who loved me and gave Himself for me, Jn. 12:32,33
