2 Name means “Enlightened Peace” Wrote a book over Marine Biology Was Emperor for sixty-three years Became Emperor of Japan in 1926 Was believed to be a pacifist Died at the age of eighty-eight years old

3 Growing Up Born April 19, 1901 Separated from parents at birth Moved back with them in 1904 Began special schooling in 1908 1912 Grandfather Mutsishito dies

4 Pre-Emperor Begins intense study of natural history March 1921 travels to Europe 1926 marries Princess Nagako December 1926 takes over the throne for his ailing father

5 Reign of Power up to WWII 1927 conflicts with Manchuria begin 1937 hostilities with China break out Japan becomes allies with Germany & Italy Japan bombs US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor

6 Post WWII Through Death Japan formerly surrenders to US September 1945 Hirohito was not accused of war crimes After the war he helped Japan become an economic giant Died in 1989 at age 88

7 32 nd President of the United States Brought the US out of the Great Depression and led us through WWII Was President from 1933 to 1945 Suffered from Polio Died while he was in office Came up with the “New Deal”

11 Presidency Runs against Herbert Hoover in 1932 1933 Roosevelt introduces “New Deal” policy Japan bombs Pearl Harbor 1941 War is declared in Europe and the Pacific

12 Death Two atomic bombs are dropped on Japan Japan surrenders Roosevelt dies months before this takes place Is buried in Hyde Park, New York

13 Compare & Analysis Both were leaders of powerful nations Had major influences over their country Hard workers who over came setbacks to succeed Remembered differently
