6. Preparations Know your datasets and resources (.pdf’s, etc.) Create a single product (base map) that can be customized to satisfy many needs Create and use layer files, annotation sets, etc.

7. Sufficient Hardware & Software Maximize PC storage capacity and speed Use larger sized monitors (dual another option) Maximize Plotter memory and paper capacities Software should be commonly recognized and easily supportable Use software extensions when applicable

8. Communication Your department (whose working on what, etc.) Other departments (what’s everyone else doing) Get the word out (public presentations, website, etc.)

9. Standards & Consistency Agree upon a common look and feel for the maps that your department produces (parks are green, schools purple, logos, etc.) Only use two or three main sizes (ARCH E, letter, 60” x 72”, etc.) Peer Review (don’t leave home without it)
