The ancient Olympics Where it all started The Greeks believed that Zeus, king of Mount Olympus, put Heracles and a few others in a running race. Heracles won and was crowned with a wreath of wild olive branches. The Olympics were named after Olympia The first Olympics were held around 700- and-something BC. They painted athletes on jugs and pots.

The Sprint was the most important race in the Ancient Olympics. If you won the sprint, the games would be named after you. The discus throw was an event in which you had a heavy disc that you would throw as far as possible. We still do the discus ! The wrestling is called Pankration and is combined wrestling and boxing There are many more sports, including Jumping, horse racing, wrestling and boxing.

The Modern Olympics The Olympics stopped for thousands of years, because not enough people were allowed to compete.1,500 years later, they started as the modern Olympics then stopped for the 1 st and 2 nd world wars. Then started again! The modern logo. They even had their own logo!
