SIHS Schedule Block Scheduling –4 classes each day with study hall –1 hour, 25 minutes in each class –30 minutes in study hall Credits –August-January students can earn 4 credits –January-June students can earn 4 more credits –8 credits total are possible in 1 school year

Course Credits Passing 1 course = Earning 1 credit 28 Credits are required to graduate Earning 6 credits = Sophomore Earning 12 credits = Junior Earning 20 credits = Senior These are minimum requirements The goal is to earn 8 credits each school year

Future Ready Core Curriculum for Rising Freshmen Content Area Courses English – 4 CreditsEnglish 1, English 2, English 3, English 4 Math – 4 CreditsIntegrated Math I, II, and III a 4 th math aligned with post HS plans Science – 3 CreditsEarth/Environmental, Physical Science or Chemistry, and Biology Social Studies – 4 CreditsWorld History, Civics/Economics, American History 1 and American History 2 or AP U.S. History (yearlong) Health/Physical Education – 1 CreditHealth/Physical Education Electives – 12 Credits4 Credit Concentration in one area + 2 elective credits from foreign language, CTE or Arts + 6 additional credits of student’s choice Second LanguageMinimum of two credits required for college entrance but not for high school graduation 28 Credits Required to Graduate

Electives 12 Credits Total: 4 in a Concentration Area 2 Electives: Any combination of CTE, Foreign Language, or Fine Arts 6 Elective Credits: Any combination of available courses 4 Credit Concentration in one of the following areas: -Career and Technical Education Cluster (CTE) -JROTC -Arts Education: Chorus, Visual Arts, Band -Any combination of Extended Studies courses from the following: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Second Language

Typical First Year at SIHS English 1 Honors World History Honors or Civics/Economics Honors Environmental Science Honors Integrated Math II or Math Foundations I and Integrated Math I Health/PE Up to three electives depending on academic track

Freshmen Electives Microsoft Word/Powerpoint/Publisher Microsoft Excel/Access Agriscience Applications Health Team Relations Freshmen are required to meet a Leadership requirement via one of following options : 1.ROTC (Yearlong) 2.Band (Yearlong) 3.Microsoft classes (Yearlong) 4.Leadership class and one of the following electives 5.Career Management class and one of the following electives Teen Living Art 1 Career Management Chorus I Leadership

What’s Next? SIHS will host a Parent Night for Rising Freshmen in early March to go over registration information in more detail High school counselors will visit the middle schools in mid-March and to help students register for classes.
