2 Imagery Is the attempt to paint an idea with words.

3 Remember: Imagery in poems is only a way for the reader or the listener to feel or see as the poet does.

4 So use all the 5 senses: Seeing Hearing Touching Smelling Tasting

5 Try to appeal… to the reader / listener through one or several of these senses.

6 Surprise By: Richard Brautigan I lift the toilet seat As if it were the nest of a bird And I see cat tracks All around the edge of the bowl.

7 One day while on a walk suddenly the sky got dark I looked up to see big thunder clouds so near The belch of the clouds hurt my ears it was such a loud bark I touch the break from sunset to clouds I grasp the light I feel the wispy white clouds they are so fluffy yet strong they wont break even with all of my might

8 I can feel the cool sand squish between my toes I can spot the waves break at the horizon I can experience the sea salt from the ocean floor I can scent the burgers grill at the pier I can listen to the ocean in a shell

9 Remember: 1.Use your senses 2.Use metaphor and simile 3.Use Figurative Language 4.Be CREATIVE !!!

10 Assignment: 1.Write 2 poems using imagery. 2.Each poem should have 6 – 8 lines. 3.Try to use a rhyme pattern.
