1 Computer Disassembly and Reassembly Presentation by: James Hinton, Derrick Sartain, and Steve Evans

2 Beginning With a Good Known System  This Dell Computer boots and is working properly

3 For safety purposes  Make sure the computer is unplugged  Make sure that the computer is laying on an anti-static mat

4 For safety purposes continued  Make sure that the computer is connected to a ground strap  Make sure that a non magnetic screwdriver is used

5 Opening the case Locate the tabs located at the top and bottom of the rear of the case. Push tabs in a and lift up.

6 Unhooking the cables  Unhook the IDE cables & floppy cables from the motherboard

7 Removing the Power Supply  Remove the 2 screws located here and lift the power supply up to remove from case

8 Remove Case/CPU Fan  Locate the fan shroud assembly.  Disconnect the wire from the motherboard to the fan  Find the 2 tabs on either side and press in.  Lift the assembly up and away from the case

9 Remove the system RAM  Push down on the 2 tabs holding the RAM.  Lift the RAM up from the motherboard slot.

10 Remove the 2 screws from the motherboard

11 Removing the motherboard from the Case  Press this tab down Push the tab and slide the board towards the front of case and lift up and out

12 Motherboard is now removed from the case

13 Remove the drives from case  Press the tabs in and pull up to remove the drives

14 All components and devices are now removed from the case

15 The drives of the computer The computers hard disk drive

16 The drives of the computer continued Floppy Disk Drive DVD ROM Drive Zip Drive

17 Power Supply and Case Fan

18 System RAM and I/O ports

19 The system board

20 Reassembly Process  Place the system RAM back into the motherboard by placing the RAM into memory slot and press straight down until both white tabs click into place

21 Replace the motherboard  Slide the motherboard back into the case making sure the tab locks into place

22 Replace the two screws to the motherboard and tighten down

23 Replace drives by simply sliding them back into their slot until drives click into place

24 Reattach the fan shroud and fan power connector

25 Install the power supply and connect the power cables

26 Reattach IDE cables and molex connectors to the drives

27 Reattach IDE cables to the motherboard

28 Reattach audio cable to DVD ROM and front panel light indicators

29 Close the case

30 Reattach Power Cable and other I/O devices and power up SUCCESS!!

31 Remember, if a part jams, FORCE IT. If it breaks, it needs replacing anyway!
