Grew up playing piano. Wanted to become concert pianist. Age 17 moved to NYC for Julliard for piano Transfers to Colombia to study writing. Married James McCullers in 1937 Later got divorced They both realized they were bisexual Carson McCullers Born in……with the name Lula Carson Smith. She was the oldest of three children.
