1 Microscope Vocabulary Terms
Total Magnification Field of View Focal Plane Magnify Power Inverted Wet Mount

2 Total Magnification Multiply the eyepiece magnification by the objective lens magnification. Eyepiece = 10X Low Power = 4X Total Mag. = 10X * 4X = 40X High Power = 10X & 40X Therefore; 100X & 400X

3 Field of View d d = 4mm 4X

4 Field of View 10X d d = 1.6mm Inverse Ratio:
10X is 2.5 times greater than 4X, therefore the Field of view is 2.5 times smaller than 4mm. 10X

5 Field of View d d = ??mm 40X

6 Field of View d d = .4mm When multiplying/dividing by 10’s, just move the decimal. Multiply moves to Right. Divide moves to Left. 40X

7 Focal Plane The lens is designed to focus at one distance, from the end of the lens. If the object is not at this distance – it is out of focus. The focused distance is known as the Focal Plane. Items that are above or below the Focal Plane are out of focus.
