Noun Person, place, thing or idea –Dog, cat, boy, lady, love, river, respect, city

Pronoun Word used in place of a noun –I, you, she, he, it, we, you, they

Verb Two types… –Action Verb: shows action Turn, look, run, see, become, grow –Linking Verb: links subject to noun or an adjective in the predicate part of the sentence Is, are, was, were, am, been

Adjectives Describes a noun or pronoun –Beautiful sunset –Dedicated runner –Sunny morning

Preposition Relates a noun or pronoun to another word in the sentence. –In front of the cow. For, on, to, up, at, under, above, toward, with, between, in, from

Interjection Expressive word Wow, that is a beautiful car. Ah, what a cute baby. Huh, what did you say?

Conjunction Connects words or individual groups of words –And, but, or, nor, for, so, yet, either, neither
